About KAES

Introduction

Greetings

I hope all of you are doing well.

My name is Yongrae Park, elected as the 14th President of the Korean Association of Endocrine Surgeons, working in the Department of Surgery at Kangbuk Samsung Hospital, Medical School, Sungkyunkwan University.

I am honored and deeply grateful to be the President of the Korean Association of Endocrine Surgeons.

Despite the difficult situation, the Korean Association of Endocrine Surgeons has made many achievements in the field of thyroid and other endocrine surgery with the generous dedication and efforts of many seniors and members since its foundation in 2000 and has also established itself as a venue for communication among members.

I will continue the efforts of former President Jeong Jong Gill, who worked hard over the past year, and help Head Director Jisoo Kim to lead the society.

I will also pay attention to promoting fellowship among the members. Moreover, I will contribute to improving the academic performance of the association so that it can become an outstanding association not only in South Korea but also internationally.

I hope all members always stay healthy and continue to love the association.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Dear members of the Korean Association of Endocrine Surgeons,

It is great honor for me to be a Chief Director of the Korean Association of Endocrine Surgeons which I deeply love. However, on the other hand, I feel a heavy responsibility to further develop the association, which has been well established by the former president, chief director, and senior members. At the end of the COVID-19 pandemic, I would like to succeed and develop the major achievements of the association made by the former president and chief director. At the same time, I will try to pave the way for a new leap forward. Please let me share several operation policies of the association for its advancement in the next two years.

First, I will diversify our academic programs. I will continue to succeed and develop the necessary surgical skills and academic programs, which are needed for endocrine surgeons. To cope with the demand of the times, I will further diversify and strengthen programs such as ultrasound and radiofrequency ablation, which are necessary for the follow-up and management of patients subject to active surveillance and benign nodule patients, which are increasing.

Second, I will promote multicenter prospective research. I have recognized that, in our society, there have not been enough systematically planned clinical studies despite outstanding surgical capabilities. I will lay the foundation for internationally competitive research programs and pass them on to future generations to make them proud by expanding and activating the programs initiated by the Clinical Trial Committee of the association.

Third, I will reorganize the roles and functions of the association to fit the new era. As the times change, required fields are increasing and diversifying. Specifically, the importance of data management and statistics is further growing. I will restructure the organization so it can effectively manage various tasks, such as data collection for the 30th anniversary of the association in 2026. Furthermore, I will change the programs in the direction needed for the times, as shown in the "Gabiya", a publicity program delivering the stories of the thyroid gland, that has received a lot of attention.

Lastly, I will seek ways for senior members to actively participate in society's activities for a long time considering the lengthened longevity and activity of members.

I will achieve my goals one by one with my best during the two years of my tenure through in-depth discussion and coordination with the president, executives, advisors, and senior and junior members.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the executives, including the former president, chief director, academic director, and general secretary, for their hard work despite this difficult time.

Thank you.
